Skepta joins Risky Roadz, Suspect & Shailan for “Stay With it”
It’s been over two years since Skepta released Konnichiwa but over the past few months, he’s had fans excited for the follow up with all the new singles he’s released. Skepta‘s been keeping busy lately, in addition to his recent work for Lethal Bizzle, legendary Grime videographer Risky Roadz also connected with another big trio for their latest collaboration and now he’s back again, teaming up with the latter for a self-produced new track called ‘Stay With It’, which also features TracksuitMafia‘s Shailan, and a video courtesy of the legend Risky Roadz.
As we patiently await the follow up to his Konnichiwa album, including ‘Bad Energy (Stay Away)’ with WizKid and ‘Pure Water’, Skepta‘s dropping a string of new singles as well as serving up features for A$AP Rocky, Xavier Wulf, Playboi Carti, Lancey Foux, Ambush and Suspect.
Skepta was influential in its shift from the underground to the pop charts, as well as its creative and commercial resurgence during the mid-2010s. He made his acting debut with a role in the 2015 crime drama Anti-Social, and worked on his long-delayed album Konnichiwa. The album was finally released by Boy Better Know in May of 2016, featuring guest appearances from Wiley, Pharrell Williams, and Novelist, in addition to his previous two hit singles. Following on from their back-to-back on “Look Alive” and also guest verses on Jesse James Solomon’s “One Way”, Sus and Skep’s overall chemistry is evident again here, trading menacing bars over a booming Skepta production.
On Halloween of last year, the “Shutdown” emcee released his six track EP, Vicious which included features from some of his American associates such as A$AP Rocky, A$AP Nast and Lil B. Today, he comes through with his latest single, “Stay With It.” Over the last few weeks, Skepta has carefully teased the third of his Nike SKAir drops online—but now the new silhouettes receive a proper reveal, as the Boy Better Know star connects with Risky Roadz for new visual “Stay With It”
Skepta holds down the production on the track and recruits Suspect and Shailan for verses on the track. Suspect and Shailan hold down the first two verses while Skepta handles hook duties and closes out the track. Posted up on home turf, Skepta calls on fellow Meridian rapper Shailan, as well as Suspect, to lay down a few bars on the track. Skepta is one of the few in the UK who decides to do something different. The drill is not hitting hard and everyone else is flowing on afrobeats. We need more influencers like Skepta.
“Stay With It” follows the release of several bangers he’s dropped this year including “Pure Water” and “Bad Energy” with WizKid. He also linked up with A$AP Rocky on the Testing highlight, “Praise The Lord.”
