The Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill, returns with a powerful video “1942 Flows”
Since the clip of ‘We Ball’ with Young Thug, and his participation in the soundtrack of ‘Bright’, with Snoop Dogg and YG, we had not been able to enjoy new material from Meek Mill. All we had obtained were news about of his case. Over the past few months we have heard Meek say that he wants to be free and move to Atlanta, we know that he has the support of the governor of Pennsylvania, and most recently also with the District Attorney of Philadelphia. Sadly, we also learned that the judge had again denied his request for release on bail.
Meek Mill received a sentence of two to four years in prison after the Philadelphia rapper violated his probation with a pair of arrests earlier in the year and is currently in jail after a Philadelphia judge deemed that he had violated his parole.
The rapper, was arrested in March following a fight at a St. Louis airport, although those charges were dropped. Meek Mill also pleaded guilty to reckless driving in October after he posted videos of himself doing wheelies on a dirt bike in New York City. While Meek Mill remains locked up, his team continues the “Free Meek” campaign with the release of his new video for “1942 Flows,” a reflective track from last year’s Wins and Losses, which contains a link to another petition. “1942 Flows” serves as probably the definitive tribute to the #FreeMeekMill movement.
Meek is currently serving two to four years in prison for probation violations. Focussed around LP standout “1942 Flows” the video comprises footage of Meek, presumably shot prior to his current jail stint, emerging from prison and describing how it feels being locked into the system, along with clips of #FreeMeekMill protests.
The incarcerated rapper doesn’t shy away from his current legal struggles. In fact, the clip opens up with a fictional scenario of Meek being freed from prison and confronting a horde of reporters, promising that he’ll be an example to the younger generations. He speaks candidly about his so-called freedom, saying, “I feel like a free slave, you know? I feel like I’ve been targeted by certain people. Just being out on the streets and knowing somebody can take your freedom at any time.”

The rest of the video is largely comprised of footage of scenes from the Rally4Meek last November — featuring a cameo from Rick Ross — along with shots of the Philadelphia skyline and it ends with the chants of protesters demanding his freedom, the Maybach Music Group MC rides around the city, while shots from #JusticeForMeek protests pop up. It’s an emotional watch, given Meek’s current situation, but it’s also a powerful plea for justice that demands to be seen. In between those scenes, Meek goes from a trap house to a mansion, while rapping about police brutality, President Trump, and his ill-fated Nicki Minaj relationship.
Meek also details his frustrations while complaining about his current charges. “They charged me with F1 felonies, they seen me riding a bike. That kind of says it all," he says. “You get F1 felonies when you shoot somebody, when you stab somebody. I was charged with that for riding a bike.”
It was time for us to get good news from Meek Mill, in relation to his music. The situation the singer is living clearly is taking its toll on him. The 30-year-old artist returns to the stage in a more musical way to show us the video clip corresponding to his cut “1942 Flows”.
